FRISCHZELLE_19: MONA ARDELEANU
9 November 2013 - 30 March 2014
Much of what we encounter in Mona Ardeleanu’s (b. 1984 in Lörrach) paintings appears, at first glance, familiar: feathers, patterned fabric, fur, hair, and lace. On closer inspection, however, we notice that these precisely painted objects follow a logic that is entirely their own, which quickly dispels the impression of familiarity. Are these animals, imaginative insects, or headdresses that float in an indefinite space? The artist’s works not only plumb the boundaries between reality and fiction, and between abstraction and figuration, but also explore the relationship between space and object.
