Opening: Thursday, 28th October 2010, from 7 pm

LARS MIKKES is one of those contemporary artists who view art as a medium with which they can question and discuss the individual's interrelations with his or her environment. A persistent motif in his works - whether they are large-format, often several-part paintings or space-consuming sculptures - is the reproduction and investigation of worlds which seem to have sprung from a science fiction film. In this way, the viewer can immerse himself in fascinating alien galaxies.
Lars Mikkes presents his new series of paintings, which he produced in Berlin, under the title "Visits". A 'visit' may have many different meanings, leaving space for diverse interpretations: visits may trigger completely new experiences for the visitor and the person visited alike, and they may turn into an event that one remembers forever. In this sense, Lars Mikkes' paintings should also be understood to express something of his own visit in Berlin and his many experiences in connection with it, as well as being illustrations of 'visits' which the artist receives from somewhere within, from the galactic expanses of his own creative imagination.
For the opening Lars Mikkes will be performing the piece of music "Ariel" on the keyboard - a musical journey through a surreal universe, and told in the context of an installation of various objects, video and light.
In addition: "L.I.H. (Love is Hell)" with Michel J. Collet (g) and Peter O'Malley (g).

Lars Mikkes currently holds a fellowship from the cultural region Fyn, Denmark and is a guest at Künstlerhaus Bethanien. (More at: www.berlinaut.um.dk)
