Die Ausstellung LINEAR MOMENTUM behandelt die Linie in ihrem Verhältnis zu unserer Bewegung im urbanen und ländlichen Raum. Sie nähert sich dem Thema daher weniger über die traditionell mit der Linie verbundene Gattung der Zeichnung als vielmehr über performative Arbeiten sowie Collage, Wandmalerei, Fotografie und Video. Dabei ist der Titel LINEAR MOMENTUM paradigmatisch für die Ausstellung und spiegelt eine Eigenschaft der Linie selbst wider, die als Verbindung zweier Punkte stets auf ihre mit Bewegung verbundene Genese verweist. Temporalität und Bewegung sind der Linie inhärent und bilden die Folie, vor der die ausgewählten Arbeiten gesehen werden können. LINEAR MOMENTUM betrachtet die Linie somit aus einer zeitlichen und räumlichen; einer performativen Perspektive.
Die Gruppenausstellung LINEAR MOMENTUM wird vom 30. September bis 17. Oktober 2015 im Projektraum TCB art inc. in Melbourne, Australien, zu sehen sein. Sie zeigt Werke von vier in Berlin lebenden KünstlerInnen, Simon Faithfull (UK), April Gertler (US), IEPE (NL) und Richard Rocholl (DE), die erstmals in Australien zu sehen sind, sowie von Melanie Irwin (AUS).

This exhibition will bring together five diverse experimental approaches, using a range of media, to explore the potential of a fundamental artistic gesture the drawn line and its relationship with human movement through the city and through the landscape.
In some works, the line features as a visually prominent formal device. April Gertler traces hiking trails with thread stitched directly into the photographic image, addressing the human body’s traversal of the landscape by articulating lines that have been formed gradually over extended time periods.
Richard Rocholl uses analogue photography to produce luminous lines that trace the traversal of the landscape by speeding vehicles. The artist's repeated photographic exposures capture the lights of passing vehicles on the freeway, combining the genre of representational landscape photography with a unique kind of hard-edge abstraction. IEPE creates a playful yet subversive public artwork in the streets of Berlin by splashing colourful paint directly onto the road and allowing passing traffic to draw his lines for him. In other works, existing utilitarian lines determine the artist's performative physical trajectory.
Simon Faithfull’s 0-00 Navigation (2009) documents the artist’s physical journey, with a GPS device, as he navigates his way directly north along the Greenwich Meridian through Hampshire, London, the Midlands and Lincolnshire. Melanie Irwin paces and squats her way through the streets of Berlin, systematically photographing the overhead tram cables. The focus of these works is on the body’s adaptability as it diligently adheres to these predetermined linear paths.
