A collection is a chronicle, a portrait, a research instrument. Whether you write it or read it, it allows multiple experiences and discoveries to be made, opens up new mental horizons and perspectives of observation. Again and again, new details and associations between objects come to light. Collections are a reflection of their own genesis just as much as the systems of order upon which they are based.
This year’s exhibition of works from the GfZK collection is concerned with revealing and questioning these systems. The artworks on display focus on writing, script, archives and libraries. A further emphasis is placed on memory and history, the cultural influence of images, and the exploration of time.
From A to Z – not always in alphabetical order – the exhibition presents aspects of collecting, and invites visitors to begin an open and individual collection of their own.
