JENS MAIER-ROTHE

Jens Maier-Rothe works with various facets of curating. He uses them to constantly review and reveal different narratives and perspectives that seem to constitute the notion of the public sphere. Next to other fields of investigation he is currently interested in the auditory aspects of 'the public'. He seeks to position the practice of sound art in relation to current art discourses, while accentuating it as a vital platform for expanding questions of context-specificity. Recent projects suggested new approaches to reflect the role of sound within the context of contemporary art by underscoring the social dimensions of auditory experience. The resulting texts and exhibitions question how forms of listening are organized within the social apparatus and propose ways for critical art practices to interfere with any major narrative in the sonic realm. These issues have led to a series of theoretical experiments and practical investigations onto the specific material and philosophical implications of what he calls "sonic thinking".
