Ty Waltinger ́s (AT 1962) working process combines the cultural history of color with the ephemeral processes of nature. He solely paints with original pigments from the 15th - 20th century. After time consuming and complex preparations of the pigment powder to become usable paint , he paints the canvas and exposes it to extreme weather situations as ice, sun or rain. His abstract paintings consists of between 100 - 300 layers painted with rare pigment colors that demands a profound knowledge by Ty Waltinger how they could react with the weather. During the working process the paintings get exposed to nature and in doing so the unpredictable processes of nature become part of the paintings. Ty Waltingers paintings combine in an exceptional way to the history of Abstract Painting and Land Art. In addition what makes his works so relevant, is that already the materials and his way of painting are literally unique.
