PRESS RELEASE: LOTTE LINDNER & TILL STEINBRENNER ZU WAHR UM SCHÖN ZU SEIN

The title of the show is identical with the first oil painting Steinbrenner ever did: ZU WAHR UM SCHÖN ZU SEIN – a large monochrome set of letters representing an inversed expression: TOO TRUE TO BE GOOD. The painting marks both entrance and exit point of the exhibition.
It suggests many things. For one it can be interpreted that everything nice is in fact a lie. Or, one can argue that truth is all around us, only when we try to put it in words we have to twist it in order to become comprehensible. This would extend to the discussion as to who is writing history and how (history will be kind to the one who writes it).

Lotte Lindner and Till Steinbrenner are two german performance artists who have been working together since 2002. They both studied at the Braunschweig Art School under Marina Abramovic, where they earned an M.A. in fine Arts. Since then they have had exhibitions in places such as MARTa in Herford, Museum Fredericianum in Kassel, PS 1 in New York and the 50. Venice Biennial.
