GEORGE OREOPOULOS, ART THERAPY RADIO SHOW (PLATFORMS PROJECT 2017), BETON7ARTRADIO, 17. JANUAR, ATHENS, 2018, HTTPS://AUDIOMACK.COM/PLATFORMSPROJECT/SONG/TASCAM-0565MP3
George Oreopoulos: Firstly, I would like to tell us your name and the name of your platform.
Linda Weiss: My platforms name is SCOTTY and we are having a space in Berlin Kreuzberg.
George Oreopoulos: And what is your name?
Linda Weiss: Linda Weiss
George Oreopoulos: All right, and where do you come from?
Linda Weiss: From Berlin
George Oreopoulos: All right, is this your first time you are participating in Platforms Project?
Linda Weiss: It’s my second, my second time
George Oreopoulos: Could you describe us in a few words what is the main project that you present this year in Platforms Project?
Linda Weiss: it’s an installation, and, the title of the installation is “Wahala“, which means terrible mess or confusion, it comes from Nigeria and has also arabic roots, and for me describes the current situation, and it’s a body of works with notes and photos, and started after a weekend in New York where I have met an African American Wall Street professional, and also Occupy Wall Street had taken place, and we kept in contact had conversation with email and have, phone calls and he allowed me to use our conversation and I had takenphotos, and I have been afterwards in Moscow, in Russia, had an artist inresidency, and I used everything going around in this story, it’s a kind of a story, but describes the period of time in where I live now or where I have lived at that time
George Oreopoulos: Do you think that collaborating with other platforms is one of your main goals in Athens?
Linda Weiss: Yeah...
George Oreopoulos: Is it easier to collaborate with platforms from other countries or from Greece?
Linda Weiss: I can’t say that because this collaboration is between a platform from Canada, from Berlin, from London and Manchester, and I haven’t collaborated with platforms from Greece, yet, and I will give a piece to Lo and Behold but didn’t manage this today, will make it tomorrow, and have been invited, I’m very grateful for that, so I’m looking forward to
George Oreopoulos: All right. Do you think being a member of a platform affects your own practice as an artist?
Linda Weiss: I think so, because the decision process is, I think, different than maybe to work with a gallery, and I try to decide a lot and I like that
George Oreopoulos: And finally, what is the factor that differences this Platforms Project from other art fairs?
Linda Weiss: I don’t know so many art fairs but I think it’s the very warm atmosphere and the attitude, I think also the political attitude which I really appreciate and feel longed to and I think with art fairs seems like that’s pretty much focused on getting a lot of things sold, but could also be ok, I think, but I have the impression that it’s very much interest in bringing out innovative ideas and I love that in every venue…
