Tommy Støckel’s solo exhibition at O—Overgaden reveals the world of invisible systems that sustain our everyday lives in the year 2022. Any home, and life, is built on centuries of systems of cables, cords, pipes, and data flow connecting us all to each other in a fragile and at times inscrutable network which makes us interdependent. Tommy Støckel maps the connections between gas, electricity, water, data, and audio in his own home. The examinations have resulted in a large circuit of sculptural objects created specifically for O—Overgaden’s ground floor. Dressed in borrowed shapes of geometric sculptures, found digital models, sculptural reminiscences of well-known Christianshavn architecture, and with the clear RGB and CMYK colors of print technology, Støckel’s works render our infrastructural systems visible. Støckel’s installation reminds us how modern life is constructed around complicated networks of vital designs that constantly need updating. At the same time, Støckel dreams about the super adapter, the ultimate transformer with the power to remedy all our frustrations about how our interdependent technological systems are not always compatible.

Tommy Støckel (b. 1972, DK) holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and lives and works in Berlin. Støckel has had solo exhibitions at the Frankfurter Kunstverein (Frankfurt am Main), SMART Project Space (Amsterdam), Nikolaj Kunsthal (Copenhagen), and Arnolfini (Bristol). His projects have been exhibited at The Atlantic Project (Plymouth).
