RIA PATRICIA RÖDER

"PORT" BY YVONNE BIALEK (ENGLISH)

"Port" by Yvonne Bialek

Ria Patricia Röder ́s artistic medium is photography. This designation is, however, obviously insufficient, if one wants to describe her work adequately. Her photographhs open up a double platform that not only presents the motif itself but also plays with the self-presentation of the photographic medium in the second main role.

Röder ́s theme is photographic parameters - such as the freezing of time, the camera-determined emergence of the image through light, the transfer from three-dimensionality to the photographic surface - in each different series.

At the same time the motifs become cinematically staged, as in the diptych "Port" that can be seen at the exhibition Kunstfrühling. Clearly outlined islands of light emerge from deep black surroundings, allowing objects to be recognized. Yet the twilight landscape turns out to be a backdrop. The swan is a discarded pleasure vehicle with weeds growing in it. The puzzling scenery to the right of the image is shown in close-up in the second photograph. Eggs do not lie here in the marshy reeds, but lightbulbs: In photography, everything comes to life with the aid of light. The accompanying sound expands the images to a further medial level: It also stems from light. The buzzing of a photoflash embodies the emergence of light to a further level of perception; the visible is translated into the audible.
