In the recent work of Jānis AvotiņŠ persons and places seem more documentary, showing a more personal aspect from the artist. The “time-place-persons” in these paintings are placed in more exact situations and contexts, but still in the typical existential, romantic and poetic atmosphere.
“Every word comes in the beginning from something we accept. So I do not choose this time abstraction but precise my story tellers. I speak through them as to describe my relations. It is not about universal relations, rather the personal, marginal ones as a realistic possibility to describe the process of being. I could call it my reflections on my teachers (as persons, places and situations)”.
Jānis AvotiņŠ, born in 1981 in Latvia, lives and works in Riga.
