DDW: BEYOND GENERATIONS
Traces #1
Design Academy Eindhoven and Van
7 October – 5 November 2017

Curator: Annemartine van Kesteren

For Dutch Design Week 2017, 21 until 29 October, Design Academy Eindhoven and the Van Abbemuseum will again organise an exhibition together: Beyond Generations. The exhibition already opens on 7 October and is on view until 5 November.

Beyond Generations
Beyond Generations shows works by different generations of designers who all studied at Design Academy Eindhoven. In the run-up to its 75th anniversary, Design Academy – founded in 1947 – looks back at the traces it left behind in society.
Over the last 70 years, generations of designers at the Academy have talked about the function of design. Discussions between teachers and students created new insights, ideas were passed and talent could develop itself. These conversations have not always been the same. Beyond Generations looks back on their developments.
The exhibition shows eight frames of mind in which these conversations took place. Every frame of mind is marked by a symbolic dialogue between two iconic products. The two objects will be combined with a work from the collection of artworks of the Van Abbe. This collection functions as a window towards the world outside the Academy and places the conversation in a broader perspective.
In addition, different one-on-one dialogues can be found in the other galleries; between teachers and students, with graduation work or with works made at a later stage.
Beyond Generations shows a long history of design research at the Academy.
