"Giverny/Jeev"

March 25 - May 2, 2010

Andréhn-Schiptjenko is proud to present, Giverny/Jeev, Brad Kahlhamer ́s second solo show at the gallery. The opening will take place in presence of the artist on Thursday March 25, 5-8 pm.

Brad Kahlhamer ́s work reflects his Native American heritage and is also informed by his interest in contemporary culture - rock music, comics, urban street culture as well as the mythology of the American West. He recently spent six months in Giverny, France and his new paintings, shown for the first time at Andréhn-Schiptjenko, clash with the history of early 20th century painting and the well-known location ́s history. Monet's garden and The Baudy hotel - the hotel in Giverny where all the visiting American painters stayed in Monet's time- has all served as inspiration for his canvases. Nature meets sharp lines that are inspired by Navajo textiles and suddenly times and cultures merge.

Brad Kahlhamer, born 1956 in Tucson Arizona, lives and works in New York. His work has been seen in solo shows at Denver Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Arizona, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Wisconsin, and Aspen Art Museum, Colorado and in group shows at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Texas, Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas, Deste Foundation, Athens, Greece, New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, to name a few.

The exhibition runs through May 2. Our opening hours are Tuesday-Friday 11am-6pm, Saturday and Sunday 12-4pm.
