NINA ROOS

7.-31.10.2010

Each solo exhibition by Nina Roos in Finland is a special occasion. Not only because she has shown her work elsewhere after her previous exhibition – in highly regarded galleries in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark in addition an invitation to exhibit at Moderna Museet in Stockholm – but especially because she continues to change and develop as a painter, thus challenging her viewers to grow and see her work in new ways.

Nina Roos has painted for many years in oils on acrylic. This means that the works are, on the one hand, planar , translucent and imbued with a kind of immaterial feel, while on the other hand they are highly sensual, even appealing to the sense of touch. A characteristic feature of Roos's recent work that differs from her earlier paintings is the accommodation of incommensurable spaces of a kind within a single painting. These works have a strange mood to them, as if something has been dislodged, or was it the viewer's gaze that moved and did not notice the passing of time?

There is always something highly enigmatic about Nina Roos's works, and that is the reason for their fascination. Someone wishing to experience by seeing will gain a great deal from these painting.
