ANTONIA LOW

ANTONIA LOW IS INTERESTED IN R...

Antonia Low is interested in rearranging the facts. Like a research scientist, she examines her own perception and the composition of everyday objects, the space and the space surrounding it, in order to declare a new perspective on them. It is an exploration of the simple things. Everyday, meaningless material is analysed and removed from its usual, familiar context. Among other things, the artist dissects the common multi-socket cable, out of which the inner, single-veined cables are drawn. Floral ornaments are created from loose cables and their used-up outer skins. This ornamental structure of black and white cables creates a morbid picture, similar to art nouveau decoration, yet nevertheless remains mundane in its simple functionality: connected to a live tubular fitting on the gallery's ceiling, these cables hang down to the floor where they scatter in a confusion of glowing light bulbs, like offshoots grown out of the gallery's lighting.
