'Disarrays'

preview wednesday 24 june, 6 ‒ 8pm
25 june ‒ 1 august 2009

Ancient & Modern presents ‘Disarrays’, three new works by Alan Kane.
Unnearthed from his hard drive, Kane presents photographs in three discrete groups comprising of varied images “accumulated in the same way that your
jacket accumulates dirt when you are rolling around the dance floor.”
Kane’s presentation takes cues from forms of display familiar to us from car boot sales, village halls and barber shops. Drawing equivalence between many different reasons for having pictures, with these new works Kane is motivated by the possibility of bringing the viewer closer to the process of production.
‘Disarrays’ is one of several projects to take place in London this summer
by Alan Kane. ‘Life Class: Today’s Nude’, is a television series commissioned by Artangel and broadcast on Channel 4 over five lunchtimes from Monday 6 July.
‘The Stratford Hoard’ (2008/9), realised with Art on the Underground, was a series of eclectic museological exhibitions of private collections shown recently at Stratford station.
Working collaboratively with Jeremy Deller, Kane curated ‘Folk Archive; Contemporary Popular Art from the UK’, touring internationally since 2005.
Alan Kane makes a solo presentation for Ancient & Modern at Frieze Art Fair in October.
Exhibition open Thursdays - Saturdays, 12 - 6pm and by appointment.
Channel 4 Broadcasts Monday 6 July – Friday 10 July 2009.
