17th Biennale of Sydney - THE BEAUTY OF DISTANCE: Songs of Survival in a Precarious Age

12 MAY - 1 AUGUST 2010

In a country that has traditionally regarded distance as a disadvantage, this winter, the 17th Biennale of Sydney celebrates the beauty of distance by bringing together art from around the world. This presentation of primordial, timeless, challenging and inspirational works will express the unique power of art as well as its creative richness.

Directed by David Elliott, the Biennale of Sydney continues its longstanding association with the MCA, which has dedicated all four levels to showcasing the work of 94 Australian and international contemporary artists.

Artists include Louise Bourgeois, the Chapman Brothers, Brett Graham, Steve McQueen, David Noonan, Roxy Paine, Shen Shaomin, Fred Tomaselli and Bill Viola.

Held every two years, Australias largest contemporary visual arts event takes over various Sydney venues for a three month exhibition, with a program of artist talks, performances, forums, film screenings, family events, guided tours and other special events, all FREE to the public.
