The MMK is presenting two works by Carsten Nicolai (b. 1965) revolving around various aspects of human perception and making their mechanisms experienceable - unidisplay and uni(psycho)acoustic.

With the installation unidisplay, Nicolai addresses the sense of sight by presenting changing graphic patterns and forms on a projection surface measuring fourteen metres in length. The measurability of time, the structures of sign systems, and the function of optical illusions are the central themes the artist investigates with this work.

The sound chamber uni(psycho)acoustic enhances unidisplay on the audio level. Simultaneously with the visual elements, the sound installation concentrates on psychoacoustic phenomena and explores the effects of auditory impressions. uni(psycho)acoustic is being developed with students of the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste Städelschule within the framework of Carsten Nicolai’s guest professorship.

Students: Alexander Tillegreen, Ellen Yeon Kim, Christin Paula Berg, Alan Brock-Richmond, James Atkinson, Jol Thomson, Lars Becker, Philipp Bergmann, Tobias Donat, Daniel Stempfer, Graziano Capitta, Franziska Stenglin.
