La parenthèse surréaliste
5 November 2014 - 2 February 2015

Curator : Mnam/cci Clément Chéroux

The Centre Pompidou is opening a new area devoted to the exhibition of photography. This new photography gallery will provide free access to viewers, with three exhibitions dedicated to historic or contemporary photography each year, thus revealing the wide-ranging variety of the Centre Pompidou's remarkable collection of 40,000 photographs: one of the finest in the world and the most important in Europe. For its opening, there will be an exhibition devoted to the work of Jacques-André Boiffard, the great surrealist photographer, through a selection of 80 of his photographs. A founding member of La Révolution surréaliste, Breton's accredited photographer for Nadja, and then Bataille's for the review Documents, Jacques-André Boiffard is the last great Surrealist photographer who has never featured in a retrospective. The Centre Pompidou finally pays tribute to him.
