SPACE STATION #4: JESPER ALVÆR
13 – 22 May, 2011
0047 has invited Jesper Alvær for a sixty-hour residency and exhibition project as part of Space Station: On Enabling, Production and Display. During his stay at 0047, Alvær will explore the relationship between the institution, its staff and spatial organization by restructuring the functional occupation of the gallery / office space.
Alvær will respond to the reminiscences of previous Space Station residents - questioning expectations and roles of artists and institutions within residency programs, such as studios as a staged space for creation and the promise of artists’ availability and production. As a result 0047 will relocate its workstations to the gallery space and construct new environments of delayed socialization and display, building an exhibition of and about the institution.
About Jesper Alvær
Jesper Alvær (b. 1973) received his formal training as an artist in Prague, New York and Kitakyushu, Japan. Many of his projects may be characterized as long-term investigations that take into account effects of cultural constructions. His projects often materialize in the form of installations, videos or undocumented interpersonal meetings. Recent exhibitions include: Sight of Times, CCA, Torun, Poland; Representing the Nation, ITCA, NG Prague, the Czech Republic; Erratum (DUMB, 2009); Eventos Paralelos, Manifesta 8, Murcia, 2010/11; Lights On, Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Oslo, Norway; World-Ex-Position, Open Space, Vienna, Austria; 'Figure and Ground', Bunkier Sztuki, Krakow, Poland; and 'Transkultura: Akt 1', Atrium, MG, Brno, the Czech Republic. In 2011, Alvær held a residency at W17, Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo.
