ARTIST STATEMENT
I work as a visual artist in the fields of conceptual graphics, performance, video art and photography.In my conceptually shaped work I explore different mass media phenomena which determine our culture. So I use and quote, for example, slogans, details of billboards, pop lyrics or the headlines of our popular german newspaper BILD, to put them in new contexts or stringent, comparative series. This is done out of my sociological interest, to learn something about our current state of society, which is reflected in their products.
My serial, performative video works are also concerned with the dialectics between individuality and stereotype, difference and repetition in our reality which is shaped by the media and its spectacular shows. These performances are developed through experimentation with performance machines - certain work structures and experimental assemblies (e.g. random number generators) - which forces me as performer to perform and liberates me at the same time.
