SENT BY MAIL takes up the approach of 1960s Mail Art, but also that of contemporary artistic projects such as The unopened mail of Max Foster, 1996, by Maria Eichhorn or Mail Nothing to the Tate Modern, 2010, by Rhizome and David Horvitz.
The show reflects how the Internet altered foregoing forms of communication. The post office now appears as a bygone institution, even regarded as somewhat unprofessional by the art world. At the same time, during the pre-Christmas period who among us wouldn`t hope to receive a surprise parcel in the post.
