Lothar Böhme is one of Germany’s most unusual painters. For most of his life, he lived and made his impact in East Berlin, exerting a powerful influence on many artists of at least two generations, without ever having been a professor at an art academy.
Astonishingly, up until now there has been no exhibition showing Böhme among the circle of those to whom he gave such inspiration. In a show of works entitled Böhme And Beyond Künstlerhaus Bethanien is now presenting Lothar Böhme together with artists Semir Alschausky, Anja Billing, Ulrike Bunge, Heike Dittrich, Jeanett Kipka, Micha Reich, René Neuer and Heiko Zolchow (†).
The selection of artists was made by Christoph Tannert in collaboration with Lothar Böhme.To mark the opening on 19th November it will be possible to hear a composition by Jochen Neurath inspired by Semir Alschausky’s installation in the exhibition Böhme And Beyond, performed by Volker Hemken, solo bass-clarinettist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig. (Begin ca. 7.30 pm)
On the occasion, a richly illustrated catalogue will be published by Künstlerhaus Bethanien, including a text by Prof. Dr. Eugen Blume
