DCT SYPHONING: VECTORS. Madness or Hell?
Netherlands 2016, 4:28 minRosa Menkman is well known for her theoretical as well as practical exploration of the aesthetical possibilities of glitches – unexpected results of corrupting digital and analogue processes.
In this work the stoical motion of first-person computer games reveals a smeared landscape, dissolving the dichotomy between two-dimensional texture and three-dimensional object. The complex feedback system shows, how data sets can be transformed into a plausible representation of a landscape, as long as you stabilize specific entities like ground and sky. In a time where superordinate predictability gets enforced on all of us, Menkman celebrates the disruption of (human) pattern recognition.

presents digital as well as analogue works that question the paradigm of linear perspective, seeking for a new kind of “status perspective” [Bedeutungsperspektive]. The latter was a development of medieval painting, in which the size of figures is determined by their hierarchical significance. Extending this approach with deconstructivistic ideas and contemporary possibilities of film creation, the presented works open up multifaceted, unseen horizons.Curated by Robert Seidel | www.robertseidel.com
