CHRISTIAN HOISCHEN'S PAINTINGS...
Christian Hoischen's paintings, collages, photographs and sculptures scratch on the faux facades of the seemingly glossy objects of desire. Whether he converts the streamlined body of a racing car into an absurd motorised monstrosity, whether he deliberately ruins the sexy pictures from men's magazines with camera flashes in all the wrong places when re-photographing them, whether he transforms a Californian dream pool into the possible set of some disturbing incident - the beauty is shattered, the dream takes an uneasy twist. For his most recent paintings of every-day-life objects, movie images and clichéd status symbols, Hoischen has developed an idiosyncratic technique, related to that of verre églomisé, that allows him to spray, pour, paint and scratch into a layer of acrylic that, after drying out, is mounted onto thick plates of polystyrene.
