30 DAYS OF PEACE LOVE AND PAINTING

Ellen de Bruijne Projects is pleased to present a summer exhibition dedicated to contemporary painting: an experimental exhibition for the gallery (this is the first group exhibition of paintings ever made in the gallery) and one organized through lines of friendship and peer-dialogue, both in Amsterdam and internationally.
The exhibition emerges from discussions between Ellen de Bruijne and Jeremiah Day – two non-painters whose understanding of art is defined by an appreciation of painting. The structure – including many artists with an open invitation – takes it’s inspiration from the informal but serious exhibitions that artists sometimes make of each others work in their studios, more for each other than the public. Sometimes an absence of formality allows a dedicated space of substance, seeing and appreciating. Perhaps it can be fairly said that one of the strengths of painting is the focus and condensation between process and result, which then offers the public a specific kind of engagement, the “production of time” as Luc Tuymans had said, or the chance to “open up,” as others might put it.
With one eye on the larger background – where words like community and solidarity have become important, though perhaps understood more as ideas and not enough as experiences – the gallery is proud to host the work of the following group of artists: Jo Baer, Ansuya Blom, Anne-lise Coste, Craig Drennen, Renato Galante, Wineke Gartz, Arjan van Helmond, Mark Kent, Klaas Kloosterboer, Gerard Kodde, WJM Kok, George Korsmit, Rezi van Lankveld, Alisa Margolis, JP Munro, Jon Pestoni, L.A. Raeven, Praneet Soi, Megan Francis Sullivan, Evi Vingerling.
