Sandberg "A Festival of Choices"
13 May - 18 June 2016

Galerie Fons Welters invites you to meet Bruno Zhu’s ‘Crew’ in the gallery’s front space, as part of the annual ‘Festival of Choices’, the graduation exhibition of the Sandberg Master of Fine Arts. Bruno Zhu turns the gallery’s front space into a flattened wardrobe. Hanging, stretched out silhouettes form a grid-like labyrinth. The silhouettes pose as commercial fashion catalogues, the attire being a collage of high street clothes and accessories. With each new outfit, Zhu suggests a desire for a possible switch of persona and identity. Zhu’s fashion show of bodiless mannequins hints towards self-branding, collective attires and subjectivities becoming mere imagery to pick and choose from accordingly. Does subjectivity become a fashion catalogue itself?

Bruno Zhu holds a MA in Fine Arts from Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam. Solo exhibitions include Vista Alegre as part of the Novo Banco Revelacao Prize at the Serralves Museum in Porto; New Arrivals, Foam, Amsterdam; Cold Open, Jeanine Hofland, Amsterdam; Temple Galerie, Paris and Grass Warm Trifecta, Carlos/Ishikawa, London. Recently, his work was part of group exhibitions at Southard Reid, London; De Appel Arts Centre, Amsterdam; LUMA/Westbau, Zurich; Exo Exo, Paris and Kunsthalle Mainz, Mainz.
