Board, Wire, and Mail Drawing

Galerija Gregor Podnar is pleased to announce the opening of Board, Wire, and Mail Drawing, a solo exhibition by Dan Perjovschi.
Dan Perjovschi's work has developed into a prolific drawing practice, focusing in particular on satirical drawing. Seeking more to communicate something about the world rather than simply to aestheticize it, Perjovschi’s thoughts develop in response to current events that affect the artist’s immediate environment, such as the cultural identity, politics, religion, the role of the individual in the collective, and the relationship of the global and the local.
The artist will show recent drawings in various media. The idea show is based on the idea of unit and quantity, and especially on interchangeability. The artist uses these media (drawing-performance, mail art, sculpture drawing, etc) as a fluid and variable adaptation of his usual drawing's practices, on paper or on the wall.
One series of works consists of chalk drawings on large-scale blackboard panels, originally made for the exhibition Chalk Reality in 2010 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Novi Sad, Serbia. This series is composed of 13 blackboard "lessons", entitled The Other, Ecology, Politics, Beliefs, etc.
The second group of work, God and Goods is a series of 80 drawn postcards made in 2008 for an exhibition at Villa Manin, Italy, based on the reflection about religion in time of consumerism. During the exhibition duration, the art space received constantly postcards which were mapping the artist's world-wild travels, and were changing the exhibition's display.
Wire Drawing (Sibiu), the third one, is a piece made out of wire, which depicts an endless field of small figures, juxtaposing the individual with crowds of people. The work refers to closed societies, as dictatorships. The artist tries to find the individual inside the masse, which is represented with a strong but malleable material. Wire Drawing (Sibiu) is a 3-dimensional version of a series of drawings Urzeala (Romanian word describing a knitted texture) from 1986-1988.
Chalk Reality and God and Goods are presented as pile, where only the part on top is visible. Throughout the 8 weeks of the exhibition, the works on display will be regularly switched .
PS: the fourth group of works is a pile of Drawings on Linoleum, which have been made at Dan Perjovschi's exhibition "Stuff" in 2008 in the gallery.
Dan Perjovschi lives and works in Bucharest, Romania. In the recent past years, he has had solo exhibitions amongst other at the Tate Modern, London (2005), MoMA, New York, (2006), Wiels, Brussels, (2008), Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven, (2008), Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2009), Kunstverein Salzburg (2009), San Franscico Art Institute (2010) and MACRO, Rome (2011).
