Jack Hanley Gallery is very pleased to announce our first exhibition for 2015. Zabriskie Point presents a group of artists that utilize familiar objects or images and represent them with unusual physical or conceptual components. Much like Antonioni’s 1970 film, "Zabriskie Point," these works incorporate formal elements that are suspended amongst strong narrative glimpses and memories. The stories that punctuate Antonioni’s film are placed within a context of surreality in a way that creates a sense of displacement. This exhibition brings together artists that are exploring similar ideas across a variety of media and techniques.
Sarah Braman was born in Tonawanda, NY, and lives and works in Amherst, MA and New York, NY. She received her MFA from Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, PA, in 1998 and her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD, in 1992. Braman is one of the founders of artist-run Canada, in New York. In 2013, she was the recipient of the Maud Morgan Prize from MFA, Boston. Recent solo and two person exhibitions include the Museum of Fine Arts,Boston, MA (2014), China Art Objects, Los Angeles, CA, (2012), Mitchel lInnes & Nash, New York, NY (2011) and MACRO, Rome, Italy (2011). Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Albert Baronian, Brussels (2014), Kunstforeningen Gl Strand, Copenhagen, (2014), Martos Gallery, East Marion, NY (2014), The Journal Gallery, New York (2014), The Journal Gallery at Venus Over Manhattan, NY (2014), Rachel Uffner Gallery, NY (2013), Anthony Greaney, Boston, MA (2013) deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Lincoln, MA (2013), The Hole, New York, NY (2013).
Ryan Foerster was born 1983 in Newmarket, Canada, and now lives and works in New York, NY. He received a MFA in Painting at Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, USA and a BFA from Moore College of Art, Philadelphia, USA. Recent one-person exhibitions include C L E A R I N G, NY (2014), Ryan Foerster in New York, USA (2014), Want and Digest, Ribordy Contemporary in Geneva, CH (2013), The Sky is Falling, C L E A R I N G in Brussels, BE (2012), Ryan Foerster, Martos Gallery in New York, USA (2012) and 70 NW 20 Street organized by Bob Nickas, Shoot the Lobster, Miami, FL (2012).
Jessica Jackson Hutchins lives and works in Portland, Oregon. She received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her BA from Oberlin College. She has recently had solo exhibitions at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT (2014), the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI (2013), ICA Boston (2011), and the Atlanta Center for Contemporary Art (2011). Her work is included in the public collections of the Brooklyn Museum, New York, The Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, Portland Art Museum, OR, Tang Museum, Saratoga Springs, NY, Seattle Art Museum, WA. and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
Ann Greene Kelly lives and works in New York. She received her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore in 2010. Her work has recently been featured in exhibitions at David Zwirner Gallery, New York (2014), White Flag Projects, St. Louis, MO (2014), 247365, Brooklyn, NY (2014), and Western Exhibitions, Chicago (2014).
David Benjamin Sherry was born in in Woodstock, NY, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He received his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2003 and his MFA from Yale University in 2007. His work has been included in Greater New York at PS1 MoMA (2010), New York, The Anxiety of Photography at Aspen Art Museum (2011), Lost Line at LACMA (2013), and most recently in, What Is A Photograph? at the International Center for Photography, New York (2014). His work is part of the permanent collections at the Wexner Center of the Arts, Columbus, Ohio, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and the Saatchi Collection, London. The artist’s latest book Earth Changes was published in September 2014 by Mörel Books, London.
Letha Wilson lives and works in Brooklyn. She received her BFA from Syracuse University in 1998 and her MFA from Hunter College in 2003. She attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2009. Her work has recently been featured in exhibitions at the International Center of Photography, New York (2014), Brand New Gallery, Milan (2014), Retrospective Gallery, Hudson, NY (2014), Tang Museum of Art, Saratoga Springs, NY (2013), and Studio Museum of Harlem, New York (2013). She was recently awarded the Jerome Foundation Visual Arts Travel and Study Grant.
B. Wurtz was born in 1948 in Pasadena, California and now lives in New York City. He received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA and a BA from University of California at Berkeley, Berkeley, CA. Wurtz has had recent solo exhibitions at The Apartment in Vancouver (2014), a two person show with Jim Iserman at Mary Boone Gallery in New York (2014), Galerija Gregor Podnar in Berlin (2013), Kate MacGarry in London (2013) and a retrospective B. Wurtz: Works 19702011 at Metro Pictures, New York (2011).
