JULIAN OPIE'S (1958) SCULPTURE...
Julian Opie's (1958) sculptures and paintings represent architecture, landscape and portraits. Opie is reducing his subjects to their characteristic features, to outlines, silhouettes and indispensible traits. Leaving out all detail that is not absolutely necessary to recognize the persons or objects he depicts Opie uses a visual language common in both computer graphics and advertising. This playful and ironic use of contemporary media at the same time allows a research into the problem of perception and recognition as well as of their limits.
