KIASMA’S COLLECTION EXHIBITION
22.04.2016 – 29.01.2017

IN COLLECTION EXHIBITION ART CAN GET UNDER OUR SKIN
Art can touch us. It can stir feelings and memories. It can get under our skin and cut to the bone – but only if we let it. One of us might find a work moving, another might find it repulsive, whilst yet another is left cold. Not every reaction can be put into words. These were among the ideas that inspired the content of this exhibition.

The exhibition presents works by 27 artists from Kiasma’s permanent collections. The chosen works invite and challenge us to experience them with all our senses. Even art that we primarily consume with our eyes can speak to our other senses: It can produce an illusion of tactility or movement, or even make our mouth water.

We live in an emotion-glutted age. Our culture and media are saturated with tears, rage and pumped-up buzz. All things are expressed in emotive terms. Art, too, can elicit powerful responses, yet it can also offer a subtler experience. Not everything has to be felt to the max – sometimes it’s enough to quietly listen.

The artists of the exhibition are Malin Ahlsved, Petri Ala-Maunus, Roma Auskalnyte, Niran Baibulat, Saara Ekström, Brian Eno, Anna Estarriola, Rotimi Fani-Kayode, Sigurdur Gudmundsson, Kaarina Haka, Jenni Hiltunen, Jouna Karsi, Sari Koski-Vähälä, Juul Kraijer, Tuomas A.
