THE 6TH FOTOFESTIVAL
Mannheim-Ludwigshafen-Heidelberg
18 September –15 November 2015

The 6th Fotofestival // The theme of the 6th Fotofestival Mannheim-Ludwigshafen-Heidelberg is [7] Places [7] Precarious Fields. Urs Stahel, one of 40 national and international photographers and artists exhibiting in [7] exhibition venues in the three cities of the Rhine-Neckar region, was invited to curate one of the the largest festivals of photography in Germany.
Urs Stahel, on the festival concept: "The exhibition deals with current issues in today's society and the contemporary works are snapshots of the precarious conditions in our world. Visitors will see themselves in the themes and works, either because they are presently living in such situations or they have experience through media reports. In this festival, together with the artists and the exhibiting spaces, we want to create a place of reflection and discussion about images and about our world."
Alongside photographic displays video installations form a focal point for the festival. Stefanos Tsivopoulos' entry for the 2013 Venice Biennale is shown, among others, at the Kunsthalle Mannheim.
The Festival of Photography spans three cities and two states. Seven museums and the three art associations in Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg will each exhibit a precarious field. The joint exhibition project connects the three cities and their cultural institutions to create a city-wide dialogue.
The organizer is Fotofestival Mannheim-Ludwigshafen-Heidelberg eV, showcasing contemporary trends in photography, as well as pioneering histories of photography, through exhibitions and accompanying discussions.
