EN CASA: ENRIQUE RADIGALES AND ADRIÁN VILLAR ROJAS
19 June - 1 September 2013

Luisa Fuentes, curator of this year's En Casa programme, devised an exercise in the sedimentation of the Ibero-American cultural fabric that consisted in teaming up Spanish and Latin American artists to share ideas and working processes in a kind of "autonomous dialogue".
The collaborative project Clay and Straw (2013) by Enrique Radigales and Adrián Villar Rojas is marked by observations and reflections on how new working spaces are formed in contemporary artistic praxes, new zones that transcend the conventional spaces of production and socialisation. The two artists travel to a non-technological space that does not exist in virtual space, located in the Huesca countryside, to engage in the activity of harvesting barley. By performing this action, they aim to connect two unrelated yet interdependent working processes and question the order of priority we establish as a result of digital sophistication.

In his artistic practice, Enrique Radigales (b. Zaragoza, 1970) investigates the dis-location of the observing subject in the face of nature, leading to an expedition across uncertain terrain (whether real or virtual). His work has been exhibited at Matadero Madrid, Eyebeam Art and Technology Center (New York), The Goma Gallery (Madrid), Cultural Centre of Spain in Guatemala (Guatemala City), MIS (Museu da Imagem o do Som, Sao Paulo), Instituto Cervantes (Bordeaux), La Capella (Barcelona), New Contemporary Art Museum (Zagreb), Center for Graphic Art and Visual Researches AKADEMIJA (Belgrade), IEEB4 Biennial – Contemporary Art Gallery of the National Brukenthal Museum (Romania), Galería Baró-Cruz (Sao Paulo), etc.

Using large-scale material supports and resources, Adrián Villar Rojas (b. Rosario, Argentina, 1980) researches the symbolism constructed by obsessions in contemporary culture. On 12 May he will open a solo show at MoMA PS1. His work has appeared at dOCUMENTA 13 (Kassel), the 2nd Biennial of the End of the World (Ushuaia), Galería Kurimanzutto (Mexico City), CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts (San Francisco), MAMBA-Museo de Arte Moderno (Buenos Aires), the 54th Venice Biennale, etc.
