The QUESTION OF ECONOMY is in the very HEART of ART & PHILOSOPHY. It is not a question among others. It touches the most CRUCIAL MOTIVS that are connected to PHILOSOPHY & ART.ECONOMY is an OLD GREEK WORD. It’s composed of OIKOS and NOMOS.
OIKOS is the HOUSE, in a larger sense the HOUSE OF THE PEOPLE, that is the POLIS. NOMOS ist he LAW or the RULE. So OIKONOMIA has to be translated with THE RULES OR LAWS OF THE HOUSE.
The OIKOS is RULED by a LAW. This LAW decides about all EXCHANGE PROCEDURES between the INNER OF THE HOUSE and the OUTSIDE OT THE HOUSE.
ECONOMY is precisely this: to CONTROLL the COSTS or EXPENDITURES or INVESTMENTS and the INCOME of the HOUSE. Of course the HOUSE is a MODEL for the SELF of every particular HUMAN BEING.
The QUESTION OF ECONOMY is the QUESTION OF THE SELF. What do i GIVE, what do i GET BACK?, etc. It’s connected to the IDEE OF PROFIT.
The CLAIM of this LECTURE ist hat THE REAL ECOMOMY IS EXPENDITURE.
