"La liberté d'erreur"
Galerie Micheline Szwajcer is proud to present La liberté d'erreur , an exhibition of new works by artist Koenraad Dedobbeleer.
The title of the exhibition recovers the title of a text, written by Teyssot on Quatremère de Quincy's critical observations about the museum as a space that modifies and redefines the meaning of objects. Except the use of the title, there seems to be no other relationship between the exhibition and the content of Teyssot's text.
Reappropriation works here as a way of loading the exhibition with extra meaning.
Which generates and creates a certain way of interpreting and reading the objects.
In this sense we can consider the title of the first work of the exhibition ‘ autour d'un détour ' as emblematic for the whole exhibition. That title is on its turn a reappropriation of a title from a text by Daniel Buren. Here it is, again, used quite literally and the work is a physical translation of the meaning of the sentence as such. Joyfully juggling around the meaning of ‘old school definitions' like reproduction, image and facsimile.
In spite of the artist use of references, Dedobbeleer's process really acts in confronting the viewer to objects and space that have been undergoing very banal transformations:
two objects stacked on top of each other become a sculpture and the volume of a paper box is filled in with a wooden bloc.
Thinking about presentation is one of the main concerns in Dedobbeleer's work. Deconstruction and manipulation are used in order to reveal relationships between space and objects.
Koenraad Dedobbeleer lives and works in Brussels. He has exhibited at numerous institutions including Muhka – Antwerp, Etablissement d'en Face - Brussels, Frac Bourgogne – Dijon, Künstlerhaus Bethaniën – Berlin and Netwerk Galerie – Aalst.
