This exhibition is the first-ever MOCA presentation of work by noted South African artist William Kentridge and features 7 Fragments for Georges Méliès, a recent museum acquisition. The work pays homage to the imaginative French cinematographer Georges Méliès (1831–1968) and fuses together theater, film, music, and the visual arts into nine video projections comprising seven fragments and two additional works, all of which capture the artist in a series of humorous and improbable interactions with his own drawings. 7 Fragments for Georges Méliès was recently given to the museum by MOCA Trustee Michael Sandler and his wife, Brenda Potter. The exhibition is curated by MOCA Associate Curator Alma Ruiz.
