Since the 1970s, Malmö-based artist Vassil Simittchiev has done a series of performances that Moderna Museet Malmö will show as documentations.
The now 76-year-old Vassil Simittchiev came to Sweden in 1975 from Sofia, Bulgaria. He broke free from the social realism and established himself in his new homeland as a conceptual artist. Between 1986 and 1996 he was professor of sculpture at Konstfack while he conducted a series of conceptual projects mainly in the public environment.
Documentations and sketches 1979-2012 is a film program that, at specific times, shows seventeen different video sketches and documentations of temporary projects that no longer physically exist. For example, Simittchiev covers the entire Hjälmarekajen in Malmö with glass for three days in 1985, only to have two lorries pleasurably break the glass.
