Elliot Ross’ (*Chicago) photographic animal portraits attract but at the same time disconcert the viewer. In their intensity they seem like reflections on the ethical relationship between humans and animals.
Ross dissolves the picture background thus the environment and habitat of the animals with help of computer into complete black, concentrating the view on the portrait. Nothing diverts, the focus is solely on the gesture and mimic and one almost has the feeling that even the pigeon reveals a reflecting consciousness and is posing in front of the camera – are we all in the end just creatures?
In the NKV the visitors will encounter these unusual portraits not as a classical exhibition but in different unexpected places.
