MATTHEW GREENE
the wilderness is gathering her children once again
November 12 - January 13, 2006
Peres Projects is very pleased to present the first German solo exhibition of Matt Greene entitled "the wilderness is gathering her children once again." Greene will present four new paintings and a new series of works on paper. The exhibition opens on Saturday, November 12 from 6 to 9 pm and ends on Saturday, January 13, 2006.
Greene's large-scale paintings, which were produced in Berlin during the summer of 2005, present new reflections on his ongoing interest on man's role in the universe. The composition of these new paintings – the largest scaled works to date – consist of an intricate, multi-layered system of paint, drawing and collage, bringing an unprecedented depth to Greene's work.
Matt Greene (b. 1972, lives/works in Los Angeles) received his Bachelors degree from Atlanta College of Art, Atlanta, GA in 1996. Solo exhibitions include: "We Are the Dead," Modern Art Inc., London, UK; "She Who Casts the Darkest Shadow on Our Dreams," Peres Projects, Los Angeles, California. Group exhibitions include: "Translation," Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France; "JT Leroy, Origins of Harold," Deitch Projects and Art Production Fund, New York, NY; "The Zine UnBound: Kults, Werewolves and Sarcastic Hippies", Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, California. Greene has been featured in Art Forum, Flash Art, The Believer, Frieze, I-D, The New York Times. In 2004 Peres Projects published the first monograph of Greene's work on the occasion of his solo exhibition, "She Who Casts the Darkest Shadow on Our Dreams". In November, Phaidon Press will release Vitamin D, For Drawing, where Greene's work is featured, and a special edition print will be published on the occasion.
