Young artists from European Academies

Opening: December 15, 2006 at 7 pm with music by Walter Dahn
We will close the first year of our gallery with a group-show with works by 15 artists, which we saw first during exhibitions at their respective academies in Karlsruhe, Cologne, Leipzig, Braunschweig, Hamburg and Amsterdam. Even if this list of academies is not as international as we suggest with our exhibition's title, the group of artists coming from Germany, England, Cuba, Poland and Spain is international indeed. The works have been created in diverse techniques such as collage, photography, painting, sculpture, video and drawing and they cannot be brought down to one common denominator; however, four different terms can be attributed to them: whereas the term "gender" can be ascribed to the works by Freya Hattenberger and Tamara Lorenz (both KHMs Cologne) as well as by Tim Stüttgen (HfBK Hamburg), the works by Björn Braun and Katrin Riedel (both Art Academy Karlsruhe), Cordula Ditz (HfBK Hamburg), Glenda León (KHM Cologne), Christof Mascher (HBK Braunschweig) and William Monk (de Ateliers Amsterdam) are "self-reflexive" insofar as they deal in one way or another with the conditions of their production and with the techniques used to produce them. Contrary to that, Eli Cortiñas Hidalgo (KHM Köln), Fränze Hoppe (HBK Braunschweig) and Paul Sochacki (HfBK Hamburg) work with contents that can be loosely described as "claustrophobic". And – finally – the contents of the works by Patrick Farzar (HfBK Hamburg), Regine Müller-Waldeck (HGB Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig), and Thomas Straub (Kunstakademie Karlsruhe) are somewhat "mystic". All in all, the works form a strong impression in which the wide spectrum of contemporary artistic analysis is represented.
The exhibition runs from December 16, 2006 through January 13, 2007.
