The life's work of the Swiss artist Hermann Obrist (1862-1927) represents one of the most important contributions to art at the turn of the 20th century. In Munich, he founded the German equivalent to the Art Nouveau movement which sought to fuse the exacting craft of the applied arts with the aesthetic demands of the more liberal fine arts. For the first time, the complete ¿uvre of this draftsman, sculptor and theorist, who created the first abstract sculptures in the form of fountains and tombs, will be on show to the public. By interlinking images and science this exhibition will draw attention to the contemporary relevance of Obrist¿s work on the art, applied arts and science of our era.
The exhibition is being held in conjunction with the Museum Bellerive, Zurich. A catalogue will be available.
