The Pinakothek der Moderne is presenting a representative selection of works by Richard Tuttle (b. 1941) covering all of the artist's creative phases from private collections in Munich. The exhibition has been organized in cooperation with the artist himself, who will also be present for the installation and set-up of the room.
Richard Tuttle is one of the most important individual personalities in American contemporary art. In addition to drawings, watercolors and prints, the artist assembles sensitive collages out of everyday materials - wood slats, fabric, wire, string and cables - in which each element appears to take on a feeling of distinctiveness and preciousness. In Tuttle's poetic pictorial creations, the polarity of calculated precision, disciplined starkness and playful uninhibitedness emerge.
In the Sammlung Moderne Kunst, Tuttle's works will be exhibited in close proximity to drawings by Joseph Beuys and John Cage, who both contributed to the further development of the medium of drawing in an innovative and pioneering manner.
Parallel to the presentation in the Pinakothek der Moderne, the Kunstverein München will also host a show of works by Richard Tuttle from
