BIO
As a child I often played with all kinds of materials to build temporary constructions. But when I “discovered” painting I thought I found my real interest. I wanted to learn how to paint as well as I could, so I studied techniques to master it myself. When I was nineteen I had my first exhibitions and I felt that my future was to be a painter. After a couple of years, the combination of painting with various small side jobs was financially not feasible. I entered a period of working in IT and management. I became a project manager which allowed me to experience other cultures by living and working in many countries. Also I developed skills in organizing and managing projects, which now I find very useful. The problem was that not much time was left for making art.
So early in my forties I decided again to dedicate my time to painting. I became a member of an artist collective, initiated and organized art events and started cautiously to explore other art mediums. This really took off when I entered the art academy (Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam) and started to work with all different kinds of materials.
During the years at the academy I realized that making installations and sculptures is what challenge me most. And also what fascinates and triggers me as subjects to start making things.
Now I know that I am not a painter or sculptor but a constructor of things, just like I started as a child.
