September 11 – October 17, 2009

Heidestrasse 50, 10557 Berlin
Galeria Plan B is happy to present the first solo exhibition in Germany of Istvan Laszlo, Romanian artist with Hungarian origins born 1981 in Targu Mures, Romania. The exhibition 'Preset Adjustments' opens on Friday, September 11, 18 - 22 h and will be on view through October 17, 2009.
Istvan Laszlo believes that the most important role of the artwork is its power to reshape our understanding of history, the contemporary world and most importantly our relationship to it.
His work takes the form of objects, photographs and video, often presented with black humor that sources back to the artist's background, shadowed with the memories of the communist regime in which he grew up in, in 80's Romania and the experiences of the 80's and 90's transit period. In our world saturated by the mass media, one's identity blurs in with the global construct of the person. The world of celebrities: film, music, sport stars, politicians is characterized by a dilution of individuality. Istvan Laszlo's work frequently deals with the questions of cultural and personal identity. His relationship with the global media starting as late as early 90's, like for so many others of his generation, the sudden introduction of mainly Western and global media left deep marks on his personality. Often treating internet found images as found objects, he manipulates them in order to reshape their meaning and message.
