I AM INTERESTED IN QUESTIONING...

I am interested in questioning the idea of time (historical time, real time, fiction time) and I use the cinema aesthetics to emphasis the connection between these different moments.
I am particularly interested in using the documentary form for its characteristic to inform viewers while showing a true story or reality to the public. In contrast to the documentary aesthetic, my videos show the impossibility of establishing a true line in the reconstruction of a tale. The varying interpretations and personal opinions give a multitude of perspectives of the same reality.
The performance of the actors, clearly present in the video Vuurgevecht op de Dam, makes the story unreal and the eyewitnesses seem just as unreliable as all the other actors. We can only trust the historical documents: films, photos, deeds. Are these not another subjective view of the reality? Who decides which documents are of interest for the reconstruction of history?
In recent years, I have been fascinated by the possibility of history playing an active role in the present, not only in the process of recollecting memories, but as a real mediator of change.
In my works, the historical events enter the present. The people in the movie and those who are observing it, are confronted with events and forced to take a position. The awareness of the events, past and present, creates a dimension of undefined time in which people establish their role and their relationship to each other.
