COR

November 3, 2010 - January 23, 2011

Nine creative practitioners have responded to The Score, a new contemporary
dance work by choreographer Siobhan Davies, as part of ROTOR. Filmed from above, the patterns made by the dancers in the piece in turn created a score for a composer, poet, ceramicist, photographer, playwright and four visual artists to respond to through their own art form.

At the SLG Massimo Bartolini presents a light installation in the new Fox Garden which considers The Score as a glimpse into the microscopic, and expands its rules to a macroscopic level into the surrounding environment by means of what the artist refers to as a ‘performative sculpture’, bringing together a site-specific light installation and live dance performance. Developing ideas explored in other recent outdoor works by Bartolini, Cor consists of white spherical lamps placed around the garden walls so that a swiftly moving circle of light is created as each lamp turns on and off in quick succession.

Echoing the form, direction and speed of that circle, every Sunday a dancer spins for one hour in the same direction as the movement of light. The performance takes place just before sunset.

Please note the performance will not take place in the event of rain. Please call the gallery on the day for further details.

The other commissions which form part of ROTOR can be seen at Siobhan Davies Studios from 3-14 November, admission is £12/£6, and a selection at a special performance at the SLG on 9 December, £7/£5 conc.
