In a practice that spans performance, video and graphic design, Nora Turato examines the ephemeral nature of words and the instability of meaning. In tandem with her latest exhibition, opening at the Los Angeles gallery on February 27, Sprüth Magers is thrilled to host Turato’s first-ever performance on the US west coast. Constructed as monologues, these charismatic, often humorous works are meticulously choreographed and rehearsed utilizing the artist’s voice and gesture (Turato has trained with a vocal and dialect coach since 2021). She inhabits different personas, employing facial expressions, her entire body, diction, rhythm, repetition and tone to convey both the seductive power of language as well as its frailty and fallibility.
