D "Cacophony of Things" setzt sich mit Entwicklungslogiken der zeitgenössischen Kunst auseinander, deren häufig hybride und offene Werke eine äußerst vielfältige Bandbreite von Themen und Bezugssystemen beschreiben. Die Unbegrenztheit von künstlerischen Referenzen geht dabei mit der Frage nach der künstlerischen Idee einher, wie diese entsteht und sich durch ein Kunstwerk vermitteln mag. Um diese Fragestellung genauer untersuchen zu können, unterteilt sich die Ausstellung in einen Raum der Kunstwerke und einen der Dinge. Werk und Ding unterscheiden sich hier darin, dass sich das Werk als scheinbar abgeschlossen und definiert präsentiert, während das Ding Container oder Stellvertreter für etwas noch Unbestimmtes ist. Was zwischen ihnen vermittelt, ist die Sprache, die sich in der Ausstellung gleich mehr- wenn nicht missstimmig zeigt: Es ist die Sprache, die den Werken und Dingen eigen ist aber auch jene, die in den fünf Gesprächen zwischen den Künstlern und eingeladenen Gästen Bezüge, Parallelen und Übergänge zwischen ihren ausgestellten Werken und ausgewählten Objekten herzustellen versucht. ENG "Cacophony of Things" explores the developmental logic of contemporary art, whose often hybrid and open works describe an extremely diverse scope of themes and frames of reference. The limitlessness of artistic references goes hand in hand with the question concerning an artistic idea, how it emerges and how it is conveyed by a work of art. The exhibition examines this question by dividing itself up into two spaces; one is devoted to the artworks and the other is devoted to the things. Work and thing are differentiated here to the extent that the work appears self-contained and defined while the thing appears as container of substitute for something still vague. Language is the element that links the two. This is shown polyphonically in the exhibition, if not even cacophonously: It is language that is inherent to works and things and it is language that - in the five talks between the artists and guest speakers - attempts to create linguistic connections, parallel structures and transitions between the exhibited works and selected things
