BARRY IVERSON
The House of Rare Historic Photographs
16 February - 19 March 2014
Opening Reception: Sunday February 16, 7 pmIn “The House of Rare Historic Photographs,” photographer Barry Iverson delves into ambivalent truths and fantasies that the process of image-making can render real. Playing with early photographic vernacular stemming from studio portraiture, glamorous cinematic gestures, Orientalist postcards and architectural records, this body of work is a highly personal documentation of a history both recent and deep, remembered and imagined; a projection of subjective memories on actual places. The exhibition is accompanied by the "Featherweight Portable Cinema," a program of short and feature-length videos and films that undermine the veracity of the photograph, sabotage the construction sites of visual representation and reshuffle the anthology of images that we consult to remember the past.
