From the beginning of April until the end of September 2003 the Belgian coastline served as the sparkling setting for an unprecedented artistic route. Monumental works of art were erected as beacons referring to the old church towers and lighthouses, the familiar recognition points of olden days. Gigantic pictures, the so-called billboards, appeared in unexpected places and did not leave casual passers-by unmoved. Intriguing art installations were put up here and there within the scope of Beaufort01, the Triennial of Contemporary Art by the Sea.
